Let there be scarves
I finally stopped procrastinating on the fringe and finished some more scarves for the Special Olympics Scarf Project.
Four of them I did in crochet, because, well, it is so fast.
Basic stripes:
Cool stitch motif I found in one of my books:

Cool stitch motif revisited, colors reversed:
Scarf of laziness, double strand, double crochet on a size N hook:
The double knit scarf I was working on before was taking too long and coming out too big, so I made up a simple chart and started a thinner one. Now with less screwing up!
I also did my part for the Dishrag Tag competition, but I’ll save that riveting post for another day.
Random yarn and craft related nonsense
I say yarn, because even though I did start knitting a double knit scarf, I’ve been doing more crochet since it goes faster.
The double knit:

First finished crochet scarf:

Second finished crochet scarf (ok so I still need to fringe it. I hate doing fringe. Any tips?

Loved the motif so much (from this book) I immediately started another with the colors reversed:

Now, the astute observer (and probably the complete idiot) will recognized that these scarves are all exactly the same colors. Well, I’m doing them for the Special Olympics Scarf Project. I’m one of the moderators for a group about this project on Ravelry, join us!
Finally, my Etsy listings are about to expire. I have marked the remaining stuff down by half or more, so you should go buy some stitch markers. Say something nice in your comment box and I will include a free gift! I have more markers and other items, but those listings expired and I seem to be behind on my etsy fees and can’t relist yet. Oops.

That cute little top I was making for the girly child
The pattern starts out like this:
Cast on 240 sts using 4 mm needles (i used 80 cm ones)
Place marker, join in a round. Be very careful not to twist the stitches.
Knit one round.
Next round knit 2 stitches together all the way to the end of the round (120 sts).
Switch to 4mm needles (60 cm)Knit for 8 more rounds.
Switch to 3 mm circular needles (60 cm) and knit for another 10 rounds
I did spend forever on the “be very careful not to twist the stitches” part. They kept twisting. I really thought I had gotten it under control, and knit the first round, then the k2tog round, and about six more before I realized…the stitches were seriously twisted.
I said a bunch of bad words. Stuffed the project back into its bag. Knit socks the rest of the evening.
Probably could not deal with that pink Cottonease just yet anyway. I think I will find something else to use. Stash diving, anyone? I could combine that with getting my stash on Ravelry…hm.
So I’ve been knitting a lot lately
But I really don’t want the Other Blog to go back to being a knitting blog. So I will put the knitting stuff here.
This week I finished two objects already! This one is so horrible. I dyed this yarn last year, and for some reason thought it might look cute as a pinwheel blanket. Fail. I have some left and may try dishcloths or something with it, or I might just set it on fire! (kidding…I think.) When I figure out how to post an Ugh! on Ravelry? This will be my first one. The pattern is great, and once this trauma has subsided I will try one with a nice pastel, non-blinding baby yarn. The crocheted shell edging adds a special ick to it, somehow.

I was churning out dishcloths for a bit too, but got tired of them. I am participating in the Dish Rag Tag this year and don’t want to use up all of my dishcloth mojo before it starts. So I picked hats for my mindless busywork projects.

Just finished casting on this cute little top for my girly child. Due to bad planning, I will actually be using the same yarn as the pink hat.
Also in progress, my nanner socks from Wendyknits. I think I’ve messed up the count more than a few times, and I really dislike the yarn, but finishing them will be a nice in between project when the pink cotton becomes too much!
